Great Product

This is the product that I have been looking for. Moved into a 1960s home in 2022 where the builders had carved out underground rock and poured the footers and basement directly on rock creating a perched aquafur. So the sump pumps run every few minutes 365 days a year. So I needed a system with redundancy. This system provides 2 pumps, 2 electronic trigger switches and a backup battery that runs the ac sump pumps. I have 2 sump pits so I installed 2 systems. This is very DIY friendly, I would never pay someone for manual labor and unpressurized plumbing.
The pumps came packaged very well with a lot of padding. The instructions walked me through step by step of assembly and setting the trigger switches. There is a digital controller that allows you to change the depth at which the pump fires at .5 inch increments. So you can test it out and set it to the max before you flood to decrease pumping. There is a high water electronic switch that will activate the 2nd pump in case of failure or extremely high inflow.
For a battery backup, I purchased the recommended 120 amp hour amg. This thing is huge and weighs around 75 lbs. with my frequent pumping, I estimate the battery will buy me around 3-4 hours of pumping time. That’s enough for me to hookup a portable generator. I utilized quiet check valves and made a polycarbonate clear lid to finish off each sump. They are very quiet and do not cause any noise or vibrations through the house. So far, this has been a good $5000 investment.

Bad Inverter but good, overall system

Review Posted 01/13/2025
Overall great unit but like many others, the inverter went bad. The first one was covered under the 3 year warranty. (When the inverter goes bad, the system still works but there isn’t anything charging the battery).
Then within a year of that, the second inverter went bad. Philip O’Large was able to send a third but it was out of pocket. That inverter seems to be okay and now the original unit is 9 years old. Was considering another ION unless there is a better suggestion?

Inverter Went Bad Help

…after 41 months of flawless performance. Inverter cooked the sealed battery which emitted a terrible sulfur smell in the basement. 36 month warranty. Not happy. Paid $3000 for the system originally, including installation. Not sure what the lifespan of the system is, but 41 months is way too short imho.
Original install guy coming back today. Will see what he offers me. I don’t want a patchwork system with both new and old components. Will update.
Not happy at all.

My son purchased this very same pump setup several years ago and I bought one after I was convinced it was a good product. My regular sump pump was nearing its end of three year warranty. So I decided to buy this. I had a flood several years ago and an insurance claim because my sump pump failed. I have a lot more confidence leaving my home now for a week with these two pumps and the battery backup. Installed this thing and cut the pipes myself. It's not rocket science. You just have to be careful, measure twice, cut once.

So Far So Good!!

Just received the system. However, I was told since the system weighed less than 100 lbs no need to require a signature when dropped off by FedEx. Well I did...had to go to local FedEx to pick up. The packaging of the product was excellent. No damage. Product came with everything expected but did not come with the Genesis controller instructions. Went on line and printed off. Installed the system without a hitch...a little tight fit in a 18 inch wide sump since controller sensors switches are wider than I expected. Worked as designed with power and on battery backup power. I will write another review once the system is tested during the next rainstorm.

Purchased 12/8/2016 35ACi Deluxe. Inverter smell of electrical burning 3/19/2018 15months
Call Professional plumber who installed unit. Plumber called rep (who did not return the call) after doing some tests determined replacement was needed. Inverter was covered under warranty but remove and replace unit was on my dime.

Very sorry you experienced problems with your inverter. As with anything electronic, these things can happen. iON stands behind their products and provides a 3-Year warranty on this model.

Best Back-up Sump Pump system
By Marshall P.

Review Posted 06/09/2017
I am a professional engineer. I looked at all available backup systems on the market and was most impressed with the quality and design of this system. Most 12-v pumps will not do the job, since they were not specifically designed for sump pump duty. Metropolitan Pumps was recommended to me by a licensed plumber. This is an inverter-type, redundant-type, backup system employing 2 high-quality AC pumps, controlled by the Genesis controller.
The most important part of the system, however, are the dual digital switches. These switches can be used on other brand pumps, but I chose to install a system containing components manufactured and specified by one company. The high-quality pumps operate quietly, and move water quickly.

Best in class product

This is to replace my previous review from Jan 2016.
I installed this system myself over 2 years ago.
I purchased for these reasons:
- Level sensors have no moving parts
- Dual redundant level sensors
- Dual redundant AC main pumps
- Quiet and reliable pumps
- Battery backup
My pit sees a LOT of action (foundation is close to water table) and I wanted to avoid the mechanical floats that seem to be an industry joke with how often they fail. I also don't trust my basement to a plastic DC backup pump in the case of a pump failure or power outage.
All of the above has been 100% solved by this product. The first inverter I received made a loud fan noise during it's hourly test cycle but Ion replaced it under warranty and the new one is blissfully silent. (I assume this updated inverter is the current model.)
The pumps, levels, and controller have been fantastic and run like clockwork. Being able to set the water level on the fly using the controller without entering the pit feels like magic. And the dry contacts (alarm port) on the controller allowed me to hook this thing to the internet myself, giving me full flexibility and bypassing expensive and outdated landline alarm options.

Extremely Happy With My New iON System
By Bruce V.
Brownsburg, Indiana
Purchased 07/13/2016 |
Review Posted 08/05/2016
I had a 12 year old 24 volt battery backup system that during a heavy rain I found had failed and no longer worked. I did a lot of research, primarily on Sump Pumps Direct and the manufacturer sites before deciding to purchase the iON 35ACi Deluxe Battery Backup Sump Pump System. I was looking for another system that I could rely on during power outages and that had the capacity to handle the water flow that we get in our sump pit. I was drawn to the iON 35ACi system because it uses 2 regular 120 volt sump pumps and the controller alternates between the 2 pumps. So if there is a failure with a pump, you know as much in advance as possible while still having another pump to handle the needs while replacing the bad pump. Since the pumps are low amp pumps, the inverter used to power the pumps from DC during a power outage is a great idea as well. It also uses 2 water level sensors so if the "normal" water level sensor fails, there is a backup "high water" sensor that will ensure that the pumps operate as needed.
Some of the reviews said that the inverter was noisy and ran frequently but this has been corrected. The fan only seems to run when the battery charger is on which is very infrequently. The pumps are extremely quiet compared to what I was replacing.
The iON technical service staff are excellent. I attempted to use 2 existing deep cycle batteries that were just over 2 years old and found the inverter fans cycling on and off frequently. I contacted the iON technical staff and they walked me through some steps to test my batteries and I identified that one of my batteries had gone bad and was being masked by the other battery. I purchased 2 new AGM batteries and the inverter no longer cycles on and off. Lesson learned is that I should have had the 2 old batteries load tested to ensure that they really were still good and could be used. Just because you can run the unit off of the inverter in DC mode does not mean that the batteries are operating properly.

Hi Jim. Has iON addressed the noise issue with their fan motor? I noticed the 2015 reviews had issues but not the 2016 reviews. For that matter, have you heard the fan noise yourself and if so, how would you describe it?
