Is it simple to replace the mechanical pump switch?

Answer

The Zoeller M267 mechanical switch is built into the pump. If you're fairly mechanical, it's not that difficult to replace. The hardest part might be unscrewing the screws that hold that housing together. Here is the replacement switch: https://www.sumppumpsdirect.com/Zoeller-004740/p8471.html

Jim - my local supplier is telling me the M267 is an acceptable replacement for the WM266 pump in my QwikJon. Upon inspection I can tell the design is slightly different but it would certainly 'fit' in the QwikJon basin. Thoughts?

Your local supplier is incorrect. The Zoeller QwikJon systems require an exact replacement pump and the M267 will NOT work. While the dimensions may appear very similar, the switching mechanism is very different. the correct replacement would be the 1/2 HP Replacement Sewage Pump for QWIK JON® Units, model WM266.

How far will this pump, pump horizontally. I am building an outbuilding with a toilet and need to pump about 260 feet to my septic. The ground is level, basically no slope in discharge pipe over that distance. If not are there other options?

Answer

In most applications, especially residential, a standard sewage pump should suffice. Standard sewage pumps like the Zoeller M267 will easily handle "solids" up to 2 inches and will attach to a 2 inch discharge pipe. If you experience problems with frequent or occasional clogging, you may need to upgrade to a sewage pump with a 3 inch discharge. While a lot of people believe that a grinder pump will handle all their needs, this is generally not the case. A true grinder pump like the Liberty 2 HP Omnivore® Grinder Pump w/ Piggyback Tether Float model LSG202A are better used in applications that require an extreme high head (50' - 100+') or horizontal discharge run.

Hi Jim, Please tell me that's a typo in the Spec Sheet where it indicates the Motor Amps: 10.4 run / 43.6 start Amps. That's a whale of a load for Start Up. Thanks!

Answer

There are no pumps that I'm aware of with that capability, however, you might check out the Superior Pump Universal Sump & Sewage Pump Alarm System, Model 92060. This alarm system would alert you in the event your liquid level was higher than normal. Another option might be the Protected Home Basic Alarm Dialer, Model BD-5000 and the Protected Home WaterSiren Plus, model WS-04. This system would sound an alarm and automatically dial a phone number to alert you as well when the water level reaches a higher than normal level.

Hi Jim: I'm looking at using the M267 to move the water from a basin that will catch flow from 5 gutter downspouts. What is the duty cycle rating? When it rains, I expect this pump will run continuously and/or have lots of starts.

Answer

Kind of a tough question to answer because the Duty Cycle is based on a number of variables.
Basically the standard stop/starts per hour recommended for the M267 are 6-10.

To calculate a more specific Duty cycle you would need to know the fixture count & GPM’s feeding into the basin, the basin capacity along with the collected volume capacity within the basin, also the discharge length and head, taking into account peak Vs. non-peak usage (yes it gets complicated).

There are mathematical equations to figure out a close Duty Cycle predicated on the info I just listed above however, depending on peak, non-peak or moderate demand the Duty Cycle will fluctuate.
