Red Lion RL-SC50T - 1/2 HP Cast Iron Submersible Sump Pump w/ Te

I got the Red Lion Pump to work a grey water system I installed. The pump is amazing. Quiet, but more importantly, it moves a lot of water from lower part of house to upper yard. Very happy with pump so far. I like the tether system. It gave me a wider range of activation versus the other pumps which was a main feature I was looking for- longer cycles. In my project, the pump moves about 20+ gallons in less than 2 minutes.

Great If Sump Pit Is Spotlessly Clean

I should have known better. With the size of the intake slots this pump is utterly useless unless in a very clean crock or elevated off the bottom. Not even two days after installation a small rock froze it solid. Not wanting this to happen again I covered the inlet with metal window screen material. This seemed to work until the pump was overwhelmed by a storm and the thermal protection shut off the pump leaving a half inch of water in my basement. All this in the first four months after installation. I could not replace this useless piece of crap soon enough.

Pumps Very Well But Allready Starting To Rust
By Eugene H.

It pumps water very well. I am disappointed that I purchased this type of pump. I thought the description of pumping over a longer reach was what I would like. I was replacing a pedestal style pump which had a longer float system. The way I have to position the pump in my crock it sits to high and the drain lines that feed the sump get filled up before the pump activates. The pump is sitting at the bottom of the crock. I have just ordered the liberty pump with the vertical float system.

Powerful & Ultra Quiet

Just bought a home built in 1952. While doing some work at the house before moving in, I kept hearing the sump pump running about every 10 minutes. Very loud and frequent. I have a 24" sump and it's very deep, so I decided to acquire a new pump that utilized a thether switch instead of a float. The thether allows about 9" of water gain before coming on compared to about 5" with a float. Anyway, hooked it up and it's amazing. Drains the sump in seconds and it's almost silent when you're next to it. Never hear it upstairs. Great unit. Powerful. Quiet. Moves a lot of water. Thanks.

Tough lookin' little guy. It's been in service now for about two months, working on a timer, running continuously during the day with about a 12' lift. It seems to gobble up the occasional algae clump without complaint.

So Far So Good

Red Lion RL-SC50T. Selected for tethered float, HP, and cast iron impeller. Package arrived somewhat mangled, but pump was AOK. Impressed with the very durable appearance of the unit time will tell if it lives up to its appearance. Hired plumber to install, but after watching the installation (replacing a 13 year old Wayne sump pump so the discharge pipe was already in place), I realized my husband and I could have tackled installation on our own.
Tethered float cord is very long giving many options for positioning the float (also a Base Pump water driven back up pump with intake in the same pit both floats need to move freely). Works great when manually activated the big test will be how well it triggers and performs when needed. Will update review once it is tested by mother nature.

Standing Water
By Jeff

Review Posted 04/12/2013
I get A LOT of standing water in my backyard. I need drainage and it is eventually on the list but in the mean time I have this pump connected to 1 3/4 inch hose and it works wonderfully, I would recommend as a lower cost alternative to the more expensive pumps. I have used it roughly 6 times now, no issues. It does have a wierd pinhole discharge on the lower end of the unit but I believe it helps keep the prime stronger. Either way it's used in my back yard and works perfectly. I would recommend!
