Exactly What I Needed
By Thomas J.
WHITINSVILLE, Massachusetts
Purchased 01/18/2021 |
Review Posted 08/09/2021
Needed a new sump pump for my garage and picked this bad boy up about 7 months ago - in the winter The pit is slightly below ground level and with the foundation the vertical rise is about 4.5 feet with a total of about 10 feet of 1.5 inch PVC pipe including 2 90 degree elbows and a check valve to go through. In the late winter and early spring the pit gets a lot of water and probably comes on for about 10-20 seconds every 5-10 minutes. At first I was concerned that the frequent cycling would wear this pump out quick because my old pump didn't cycle that often, but also didn't keep the water level low enough and that's the reason for the new pump.
This pump has proven to be a champ without one issue. The built in float works very well at keeping the water level down no matter how quickly rainwater or underground water flow might be. As for construction it seems very solid-cast iron and is fairly heavy at 23 pounds. It is also surprisingly quiet. If I'm not standing next to it I have to check to see if there is water being discharged to tell if its running. I would buy this pump again in a heart beat.

Quiet, Reliable

I actually use two of these sump pumps one in my basement sump pit and one in an outdoor patio sump pit. Combined with quiet check valves, the Liberty pumps are basically silent. The outdoor pump is used year round and has run flawlessly for about 3 years now (note: I use an NDS catch basin filter on the outdoor unit).
I went with the Liberty pumps based on their magnetic switch design, which allowed me to use them in constrained spaces. They have been trouble-free in my applications, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this model. I had some questions regarding the outdoor installation and Liberty was very responsive and helpful so customer service is another positive of this unit.

Excellent Pumps For The Pump
By Nick

Purchased 01/17/2018 |
Review Posted 01/20/2018
I own a pool service, repair and remodel company . I use these Liberty pumps all the time. They are cheap and dependable. I have pumped over 1 million gallons of water with my first one and it still works just as good as the day I bought it. Used to buy more expensive pumps but they "disappear" from customer's houses. For the money, you can't beat these. Thanks for the great product and the excellent shipping.

Saved Our Property From Hurricane Rain
By John R.

Review Posted 10/07/2016
My garage flooded with 2 " of rainwater 2 years ago causing a lot of work cleaning and drying out entire garage. I installed a Liberty 257-2 pump into a pit and used a check valve and 1.5 " pvc discharge piping. Here in Florida, last night and today we were visited by hurricane Matthew, the pump was busy last night and today pumping many gallons of water keeping my garage dry. Very pleased with the pump, I am going to buy another one to install in my front yard.

My Review

Pump seems to be working well- I like that type of sliding float switch. I do wish the water level would go less than 3 1/2" also instruction pamphlet said to drill a 1/8 " hole in discharge line to prevent airlock - description of liberty pumps states that all liberty pumps have a built in hole to prevent airlock.
So do I now have 2 holes and if so do I need to plug up the one I drilled?

Expert Response
Great question. The simple answer is no, you don't need to plug up the hole that you drilled. Having a weep hole in the discharge line will protect you from airlock, regardless if the pump has it engineered into the design of the pump.
If your pit is dry for long periods of time, airlock is more prone to happen compared to a pit that never drys out.

Float Switch Stuck In On Position
By Greg B.
Brunswick, Ohio
Purchased 11/20/2015 |
Review Posted 12/12/2015
This Liberty pump uses an innovative on off switch and I am interested in seeing how durable it and the pump will be. I installed the pump about two weeks ago and had to pull it out of the crock yesterday as it was stuck in the on position. I could not find a problem and was unable to determine why it was stuck in the on position. I lowered it back down into the 10 foot deep crock and it is working as it should.

Works fine
By Martin M.

I installed this pump with a four foot lift, sixty five feet long run with four ninety degree bends. I used 1 1/4" schedule 40 PVC pipe. The pump was installed in a two foot deep by eighteen inch diameter sump.
The sump's capacity is twenty two gallons. I tested the pump by filling up the sump to the top and it pumped it out quickly. There was a very long jet of water at the end of the run.
I am very pleased with the performance of the pump. Time will tell under real life conditions when the rains come as to how well it will do. The on/off is only about 5-6 inch difference so hopefully it will not short cycle if it really starts raining hard. I am happy with my purchase.
