Due to how this system works, suction vs a traditional pump that uses centrifugal force to move the water, it probably displaces any sediment in the sump basin.

Purchased this pump as an exact replacement for my backup pump. It was shipped quickly and was exactly as shown (or described). I was glad to find the exact pump for replacement (sure made it easy!).

My valve leaks too
By David B.
Shelby Township, Michigan
Review Posted 05/29/2015
I installed the pump with great success, but after a few months I realized that as my sump was filling with water, my sump buddy was passing water through it's valve, costing me money that I did not need to spend. I had a leaky valve. After trying everything I could, the result was to shut off the water supply to the sump buddy, which defeats the whole purpose of having a water powered back up sump pump in the first place. From the reviews I read, most of the water back up sump pumps seem to be just as bad.

Dissapointed in this product

I liked the idea of using city water to run this back up sump pump but this pump was A big waste of money. Poor quality, and don't pump out water fast enough.

I'm sorry to hear of your disappointment with the Bur-Cam Sump Buddy Water Powered Backup Sump Pump. With an advertised GPH rating of only 317 at a 10 foot head, which equates to a mere 5.28 GPM, this pump is not designed to handle any measurable amounts of water and is typically used in applications where you have a very low water table or the potential for flooding is very low. The typical water powered system would provide between 300-1000GPH of pumping capacity.

If you're in a little higher water table and the flooding potential is a bit higher, you may want to consider a battery backup system rated at between 1000-2300GPH. If the flooding potential and water table are very high, you might look at the systems rated at 2400GPM and higher. If you have any additional questions, please let me know.

Bad Valve
By Mirek
london, ontario, canada, Michigan
Review Posted 09/22/2014
Had purchased the unit from Home Depot. Installed it over a year later. My electric pump hardly ever turned ON. This one was a backup. Now my electric one turns on every 20 minutes. This unit is leaking water through the control valve with the float fully suspended. cannot find replacement valve.

It's a great concept, but the seals failed and it wouldn't pump, and leaked city water into the sump as well.

Sump Pump Buddy
By Robert

Purchased 05/02/2013 |
Review Posted 05/23/2013
I purchased the sump buddy, installed it myself and two days later a big storm came thru. The water sump saved my basement because we lost power for at least 3 hours and the water sump kept up with water coming in! My insurance deductible is 1000 dollars so I would recommend this Bur -Cam sump pump to everyone I know.

Has a One-Year Life
By George
Mason, Ohio
Review Posted 10/10/2011
I've had two of these pumps. They should last forever but you get only one year out of the water shut-off valve even if it has never been used. You cannot by replacements parts so just figure on this being an annual purchase.
